Fire Cider Oxymel

A traditional folk remedy to ignite inner warmth + support immunity through the colder months

Fire cider is a zesty, herbal-infused vinegar tonic that awakens digestion, clears stagnation, and helps keep the body strong during seasonal transitions. It’s pungent, spicy, and slightly sweet.

  • 2 cups raw apple cider vinegar

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 1 bulb garlic, peeled + crushed

  • 1 fresh horseradish root, grated (about ½ cup)

  • 1–2 fresh hot peppers (jalapeño, habanero, or cayenne), sliced

  • 1 piece fresh ginger root (about 3 inches), grated

  • 1 lemon, sliced

  • 1 orange (optional, for brightness)

  • 1–2 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme (optional, herbal depth)

  • Raw honey, to taste (added after straining)

Instructions

  1. Prep your jar: Place all chopped, grated, and sliced ingredients into a clean quart-sized glass jar.

  2. Pour vinegar: Cover ingredients completely with apple cider vinegar, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.

  3. Infuse: Seal tightly (use parchment paper under metal lids to prevent corrosion). Store in a cool, dark place for 4–6 weeks. Shake daily with intention.

  4. Strain + sweeten: After infusion, strain solids through cheesecloth or a fine sieve. Stir in raw honey to taste.

  5. Bottle + enjoy: Store in clean glass bottles in the fridge or a cool pantry.

How to Use

  • Take 1–2 tablespoons daily as an immune tonic.

  • Mix into warm water or tea with honey for a gentler sip.

  • Put into into soups, salad dressings, or marinades for a spicy kick.

🌿 Herbal Note: Fire cider is endlessly adaptable, add turmeric for anti-inflammatory power, elderberries for immune depth, or even hibiscus for a tangy touch.
